At the end of the executive session, Councilman Myrick made a motion to return to the general session.  Councilman Johnson seconded the motion and it passed with five affirmative votes.

Mayor Rozier stated that there were five (5) finalists being considered for the police chief’s position. He explained that the names of these finalists had been released to the news media on June 11, 2003 and, as required by state law, council had to wait at least fourteen (14) days from the release of the names of these finalists before a decision could be made.  The Mayor stated that all of the applicants had been advised of this requirement.  Mayor Rozier pointed out that two of the finalists were at the meeting, but assumed that due to logistics, the other applicants did not come.  The Mayor stated that the application and review process had been extremely heart wrenching.  Mayor Rozier asked for a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee and Councilman Johnny Myrick, Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, made a motion that council approve the appointment of Thomas R. Gossett as the Police Chief for the Bloomingdale Police Department pending his acceptance of the position.  Councilman Tyler seconded the motion and it passed with four affirmative votes from Council members Johnson, Myrick, Tyler and Wedincamp.  Councilman Waller did not vote.

Being no further business, Councilman Johnson made a motion to adjourn.  Councilman Tyler seconded the motion and it passed with five affirmative votes.

The meeting adjourned at 6:45pm.

The Mayor and Council members Johnson, Myrick, Tyler, Waller & Wedincamp were present at the meeting.
